This week for Calluna Community we caught up with Camille of Handsome Love Calligraphy!

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do!  “I work with brides to design the little calligraphic details of their events whether that be invitations, wedding signage including seating charts, table numbers, and place cards. I haven’t put a limit to what being a designer and calligrapher truly entails. I love it when brides come to me with visions of something completely cutting edge and different. Any surface you throw my way, I will be more than happy to write on it and bring your vision to life.”

What is your idea of a dream project?  I’ve been dropping some serious hints across my social media recently (and here’s another casual drop for you) about getting one of my brides to have their seating chart written onto a surfboard (would that not be the coolest seating chart ever?!). It would be a serious dream come true for me to be a part of a beach destination wedding. There would obviously be endless margaritas and tacos and the surf would be JUST right. I am a born and raised California girl and the waves are always calling me back.”

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?  I realize that my favorite wedding I have ever attended has actually my mother’s wedding. My mom got remarried when I was in high school and she rented out this old barn and brought in a taco truck. She had this super intimate ceremony with just her closest friends and family. She bought this random dress from a second hand shop. I remember she had a woman design the cake who was just getting into the industry. My grandmother did the flower arrangements. It is quite funny to think that my favorite weddings I have ever attended had the most minimal amount of calligraphy involved.

I don’t believe a wedding has to be anything large or extravagant to be special. You can tell right away when none of that matters to a bride and groom. They just have this authentic love for one another and they aren’t there to prove that love to anyone else. They are just there to celebrate the fact that they found that love in one another. These are my favorite couples.”

What does your morning routine look like?  I try to start my day off with new information to get my brain going. I love tuning into my favorite Podcasts (currently obsessing over Allie and Raquelle’s “Your Own Magic” and Stephanie Yu’s “A Beautiful Mess”). I love the way that these girls approach their life with this positive and accepting attitude that I try to emulate in my own life. I try to, every morning, immediately to heat up water. I have this lemon-honey-cayenne drink that I love to start my day off with. I put together my little concoction and remind myself to breathe. Then I am ready to go about my day.”

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?  In terms of calligraphy, I love when couples ask calligraphers to write on alternate materials. Driftwood, sand dollars, surfboards (casually dropping another hint here), feathers, the list goes on and on! With each wedding, brides have the potential to make their ceremony completely their own. Their personality shines through in the details.”

What advice would you give to a younger you?  I would remind her every day to be present and breathe deeply. Also, I would give her permission to eat as much cake as she likes.”

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning? ” Knowing that every day I get to work with couples who have found love. That in itself is absolute magic. Finding that love in another human being, someone who appreciates you for all your flaws and baggage and history, considering the number of human beings there are on this planet, and deciding together to spend the rest of their lives with one another. That is total magic. If that isn’t magic, I don’t know what is. And I get the privilege of surrounding myself with that magic every day.”

What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?  ” Tequila. Tequila forever. And I like my margaritas with a sugar-dipped rim.”
