This week for Calluna Community we caught up with Tamara of Tamara Gruner Photography!

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do! “I am a fine art wedding photographer. I am shooting primarily in film since it gives my images such a timeless and romantic feel. My work has been published in several online and print magazines such as Martha Stewart Weddings, Brides, Style Me Pretty, Magnolia Rouge, Trendy Bride Magazine, VOW Magazine and many more – to name a few. With my European roots, I will add that little European sparkle to my wedding images – that romance from our beautiful old world. I love to tell my couple’s stories through my lens full of passion, romance and dreams!”

What is your idea of a dream project?  “I love working with enthusiastic couples, who appreciate my fine art photography as art and who love the outcome of it. I don’t necessarily just want to be a vendor ticked off the list. I do love working with people, who want to create a beautiful experience for themselves and their guests – a wonderful day full of love and beauty, which will be long remembered after. For this, I feel that every little detail on a wedding day is so important – may it be the invitation suite, which sets the expectation for their big day, the stunning florals to create a dream wedding or the name cards on the table to show their love for their guests – to name just a few things. Everything shows so much love for everyone to celebrate the couple’s love for each other and their family and friends. It’s simply a very beautiful and harmonic day!”

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?  “It was the one of Jessica & Max, where I worked with Calluna Events last July! Their wedding took place in Beaver Creek, a stunning location in Colorado. Jessica was wearing an absolute gorgeous Galia Lahav dress and looked like a goddess! Max looked very smart in his handsome black tux. The dreamy pampas gras from The Perfect Petal framed the couple during their ceremony in a very dreamy way. This dream of a wedding continued into the reception with the pampas gras on the tables adding a natural and romantic touch to the ballroom they were celebrating in. The bridal party was wearing soft colored dresses complementing their florals. All in all, it was a stunning Jewish wedding with a very sweet couple. The bride’s immaculate taste definitely showed through the whole day!”

What does your morning routine look like?  “When I wake up in the morning I first address my e-mails before I address my planning and editing. When I talk about editing it really just is polishing up my film scans, which I receive from my wonderful lab, Richard Photo Lab. It’s only minor changes I make to my images after my lab delivers the scans to me.”

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?  “I love incredible artistic florals! I love the organic and timeless look of flowers. These days, incredible hanging centerpieces are being created, which make such a big impact and a huge statement on your wedding day. In addition to florals, which are so important to set the style and mood of a wedding day, it is a stunning wedding dress, which never goes out of trend. I love long sleeved wedding dresses from Galia Lahav, Berta Bridal and Rue de Seine Bridal to name a few. I love lots of lace, which we see every year. Dresses with pockets are the latest trend, which are so much fun to work with. Also, another trend, which has been there for years are dresses in color – a dress in a soft rose or a very soft blue is such a unique way to underline your personality. Besides a beautiful wedding dress, I love all the pretty accessories and shoes to enhance the whole look of the bride. I love tassel earrings, which are in style for a few years. Those feathery Jimmy Choo shoes Jessica was wearing on her wedding day are one of my absolute favorite trends! And then, there is the cake! What would a wedding be without some sweets!! I love some gold foil on a wedding cake – so classic and beautiful. Also, the cakes ‘forming’ some geodes are stunning! These are just a few trends, but I could go on and on and on …”

What advice would you give to a younger you?  “Sometimes it is important to listen to your heart and not always your head! If I had done so, I would have started my photography career way earlier!”

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?  “My passion for photography, weddings and my couples! Being inspired by all the beauty a wedding is surrounded with and creating beautiful imagery for my couples. As a wedding photographer I want to tell my couple’s wedding day in a story they will cherish forever.”

What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?  “I love Baileys and Mojitos!”
