Here at Calluna we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with some seriously talented vendors in the industry, and we are showing them off to you in our Calluna Community Series! We are sitting down with some of the fabulous vendors of Colorado to get to know about them, their business and what life is like behind the scenes.
This week for Calluna Community, we caught up with Lauren and Tristin of Project Floral!
Cheers! Xo, Calluna
Describe what you do!
Great Question! Describing what a florist does is a bit of a myth-busting experience. We are a full-service wedding floral company– what that means is that we custom design everything from our initial idea boards to the final product. We spend a lot of time meeting with our couples to discover what style of floral and decor will capture their celebration. During a typical summer week, we work Tuesday through midnight on Saturday preparing and delivering our designs. Flowers take a lot of preparation and care before we can start designing with them and all and after months of planning, days of handling flowers, and hours of set-up, we get to experience the best of our work: the moment of seeing a bride tear up when we give her the custom-made bouquet that she’s been dreaming of, or when a groom walks into the reception area so happy with the beauty that he gives us all hugs. These are the moments that bring us the excitement for the work we do!
What is your idea of a dream project?
My dream project is working with a couple to design a floral installation that combines alternative materials from the art world with fresh floral to create a one-of-a-kind “wow” moment that makes their event feel like a unique expression about who they are as a couple. I am deeply inspired by my art background and have a passion for sculptural elements; my dream project leans heavily on an artistic flair coming out. -Tristin
What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?
My favorite weddings that I have been a part of have been those of family members because being all together with a large extended family who live all over the country is a rare and fun-filled opportunity!
My favorite wedding that I have worked at was at Moss Denver where we were able to install what looked like a hanging garden throughout one large room! It was incredible and the teamwork that went into it was absolutely beautiful! -Lauren
What does your morning routine look like?
Mornings are the best part of my day! I have two foster babies. Taking care of them takes most of my attention in the morning, so I aim to wake up about an hour before the little ones! I make tea, read, do a 20 minute yoga routine, and then start breakfast! -Lauren
What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?
We are loving the COLOR! I am also in love with the lush garden almost Victorian style of design, where each arrangement holds a variety of large lush floral in an asymmetric structure that gives off an almost spontaneous feel to it. -Lauren
What advice would you give to a younger you?
I would tell my younger self to not hold back because of fear. I started my business right out of art school and was intimidated by all of the professionals in my field that had more experience and more years and it took a long time to feel confident with knowing that I was worthy and that I could dream bigger. I would tell my younger-self to dream big and have so much grace for the process. -Tristin
What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?
Our team! Our employees are incredibly invested in improving the culture of our studio. We love meeting for morning coffee and starting the day checking in with one another. We love listening to hand-made playlists full of music that each of us enjoys, giving one another gifts, and writing notes of gratitude for one another.
What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?
A Good Old Fashioned! -Tristin
