As we approach the one year anniversary of Shelby + Ben’s mountain-top wedding, we are reflecting back on the mountain-like movement it took team wide to bring this day to fruition.
Shelby and Ben’s wedding was the “first” for so many of us. The first wedding (originally slated for April 4 2020) that navigated through the difficult and murky conversations of postponement in the early and scary days of the pandemic. The trailblazers of negotiations of what a postponement looked like, what guest communications required, an example of how to sit in the uncertainty of fear and grief and confusion and hope.
We postponed their wedding to the fall of 2020 only to quickly re-assess and land on Memorial Day 2021. Through a year of “re-plans” we underwent every potential scenario in the book, constantly strategizing, troubleshooting and problem-solving the newest crop of regulations, requirements and recommendations to safely gather and celebrate the nearly Newlyweds.
We were consistently revitalized and inspired not only by Shelby and Ben and their undying positivity and adaptability, but also by the unwavering flexibility, support, trial and error and non-stop communication of every single vendor who touched this wedding (and spoiler alert, there were many!). In a year+ of uncertainty, our mantra was “we don’t know how we’re going to do this or what it’s going to look like, but we’re going to have an amazing wedding for these two!!”. With regulations constantly in flux up until the last moment (Pitkin County lifted their strongest level of regulations just one day before festivities kicked off!), agility and endurance was the name of the vendor game–– and each one delivered tenfold. We were unbelievably moved and in awe of the tidal wave of support and teamwork this event produced and it truly went off more beautifully than anyone could have expected.
Shelby and Ben reminded us what re-connection looked like. Every part of their wedding was carried a deeper weight because of the journey it took to get there. The two were so steadfast in their love to each other and to their community. The relief and complex emotion of everything the last year had provided but more importantly the eruption of JOY and celebration was palpable.
It was a weekend we will never forget. Thank you, Shelby, Ben and families, for sharing so much of your lives and love with us. Thank you to the once in a lifetime vendor team who so miraculously curated this event. We are endlessly, endlessly grateful and SO THRILLED to relive this day with all of you!
