Here at Calluna, we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with some seriously talented vendors in the industry, and we are showing them off to you in our Calluna Community Series! We are sitting down with some of the fabulous vendors of Colorado to get to know about them, their business and what life is like behind the scenes.
This week for Calluna Community, we caught up with Keelia of Helios Floral!
Cheers! Xo, Calluna
Describe what you do!
I am a floral designer, I’ve been in the industry for about 4 years and love it for so many reasons. My specialty within the floral realm is designing for weddings and special events. I get to meet wonderful and in-love couples who trust me to play a part in the transformation of their wedding venues with flowers. There have been countless times where I’ve stopped in the middle of whatever I’m doing and think “Wow, this is really my job! This is crazy!” I collaborate with other vendors to create really stunning spaces, we have such an amazing and creative group of wedding professionals in Colorado!
What is your idea of a dream project?
My idea of a dream project is having the opportunity to work with a group of vendors and a couple who totally believe in me and trust me. I love when couples come to me with a feeling or emotion and ask me to create designs that will make their guests feel the same way. I have some really awesome color palettes in the works for this years weddings and I cannot wait to experiment with that!
What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?
I love all of my weddings, but I have to say my favorite was for Angela and Kyle at Milston Wells Farm. My clients completely trusted me and gave me a huge amount of creative freedom. On top of that, I was able source nearly 90% of the flowers from local farmers in the area. That time of year gives way to some of my favorite blooms and there were so many perfect choices for their color palette and vibe. I had the great pleasure of working with Calluna Events, Yonder House, Blackbelly Catering, and Alison Vagnini. This crew of talented vendors came together seamlessly and the whole event was so beautiful. To top it off it was so evident that our clients had the most amazing time and were over the moon with the work that we all brought to the table.
What does your morning routine look like?
I do not have a very strict routine in the mornings. No matter what the agenda, I start with a cup of tea. Some days I will wake up and get dressed in something that feels pretty, fun, and exciting and I’ll go to meet a client, or simply hang out at my favorite coffee shop to work on proposals. Other days I roll out of bed, throw on some sweatpants and tee shirt and go straight to my garden to get my hands in the dirt. My garden is a place where I can reflect, think things through, and feel inspired.
What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?
I have a few favorite trends at the moment, I’m loving the incorporation of fruits, detailed textures, colored candles, and making larger color statements with table settings.
What advice would you give to a younger you?
I feel like I would love advice from an older me! But if I were to give myself advice it would be to remain confident in your weird winding path and rest assured that there are successes and good things to come.
What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?
I pull myself out of bed because I get to create something that hasn’t been created before. I get to have my hands on stems, and work in vivid color. I get to work with the best group of flower friends, I always have the best time designing with them and watching everyone grow in their own directions and hone their brands and unique styles.
What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?
My favorite “cocktail” is a spicy michelada!
