When the rain (and snow) started falling on Colorado last week I had deja vu, big time! Thinking back to one year ago gives me slight anxiety over the rain that started….and never stopped. On September 14, 2013, the day of Emma + Patrick’s wedding, Colorado was in the midst of the 100 year flood. Rains started earlier in the week and when it became apparent they weren’t stopping and the Lyons venue, Planet Bluegrass, for Emma + Patrick’s nuptials was underwater the Calluna Events team acted swiftly and worked literally around the clock for two days to move not just their wedding but also their rehearsal dinner and their morning after brunch.
As wedding planners it’s our job to ensure our clients wedding day is everything they imagined and to reduce any stress and take away problems. We are here to troubleshoot issues as they arise and keep them away from the bride and groom. As was the case when the rain started and kept falling and venues were closing and the entire town was under nationally imposed emergency status. Would we still have a wedding? Of course we would!
Without going into all the details or rehashing the day over again I will say with certainty that I have never been more proud and emotional as I was when Emma finally walked down the aisle arm and arm with her Dad to marry Patrick. I normally tear up when my brides walk down the aisle. But this was so different. It was as if the culmination of something historical was happening and something we had all overcome together. Their wedding made history and it will be a story they will always remember!
