Here at Calluna we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with some seriously talented vendors in the industry, and we want to show them off to you in our Cocktails with Calluna series!! We will sit down with some of the fabulous vendors of Colorado and get to know about them, their business and what life is like behind the scenes. This week we caught up with Jordan Kahn from Jordan Kahn Orchestra!
Describe what you do!
“I am an instigator of energy and movement. Through the strategic selection of music, my main job at any event I am at is to fill that dance floor. Our reputation for success on the dance floor at each and every event without fail is what has brought me to where I am today…an International Luxury Wedding Party Orchestra.”
What is your idea of a dream project?
“We get to travel the world performing for incredible clients such as Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones, Nancy Lieberman, Lindsay Vonn, and get to share the stage with superstar artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Toby Keith, The Temptations, and many more. Now I love to be a crooner, but a dream project would be collaborating with Michael Buble to create the ultimate early evening performance for a Bride or Groom.”
What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?
“Duh! The Hovey/Platt wedding in Boulder, CO with Calluna Events”
What does your morning routine look like?
“It really depends on how late I am performing or traveling the night before. The really late nights I will blackout my room, and sleep as long as possible. Sleep is a vital part of a successful vocalist…its part of my vocal maintenance when I sometimes have to sing every single night in a week. Otherwise I like to get up early, have a cup of coffee, some bacon and eggs, and off to the races.”
What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?
“More and more, I am recommending to my clients to find ways to shorten and/or eliminate the breaks. I recommend a maximum of one 15 min break during the dancing portion of an evening. It’s definitely worth pursuing with your entertainment vendor, as it keeps the dance floor momentum going. It may cost more, but I assure you it is a good investment. ”
What advice would you give to a younger you?
“Don’t eat all the food! The younger me was around 300 pounds, and I ended up losing about 150 pounds. It’s amazing how little we actually need to eat to give the body what it needs!”
What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?
” My next event is always at the top of my head. I love customizing it, specializing it, and delivering the event of my clients dreams.”
What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?
I try to stay away from carbs or sugars. They cause too much inflammation and are not good for the vocal chords. That being said, I will stick with a top shelf whiskey or tequila on the rocks!
