This week for Calluna Community we chatted with one of our new friendors, Cristy with Lucky Onion! Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do!

As a husband and wife team, working together for 18 years, our business has evolved to include the right types of services for our clients. Our services include Design, Custom Artwork and Illustration, Letterpress Printing, Foil Stamping, Laser Cutting, Digital Printing, Pocket Folios, Guest Addressing, Assembly & Mailing, Rubber Stamps.

As one of the pieces that set the tone for your wedding, and the first taste of what’s to come for your guests, we work as your advocates for your stationery and help you make educated decisions along the way. We help you unify your theme by tailor branding each piece of stationery, starting from Save the Dates to Wedding Invitations, to Day of Stationery. All artwork, illustration, design, and printing is done in-house to ensure the best quality and personalization. Our belief is that no two invitations are ever alike and yours should be a keepsake for years to come.

What is your idea of a dream project?

I love working with clients on a close and personal basis. It is gratifying when they place their trust in me to create the best stationery suite for them. While most of my clients carry busy lives, it’s my job to ask the right questions, to get to the root of their vision. I’ll ask for adjectives to help describe both the couple and their wedding day. It helps me step into the their world and visualize how we can put that on paper. From there, I run with the vision and get creative. I often get the comment that I make the process so easy and fun for my clients.

While I don’t often attend my client’s weddings, I always feel like I have experienced their wedding day just by the journey of creating their wedding stationery. The results are always one-of-a-kind. That is why I love what I do!

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?

I truly feel that each client is so different and unique, that I have honestly enjoyed working with all my clients. Upon reflection, my favorite weddings are when the client truly appreciates and is inspired by paper (or other materials) and the wonders we can create with it. Just recently, I finished a wedding for a couple getting married in Florence, Italy. I painted and drew several illustrations: cityscape of Florence, cypress trees, olive branches, the villa for their wedding, and several other venues unique to their event. They wanted their guests to feel special and attended to, so we created a stationery suite that provided all of their planning details in an organized, yet elegant fashion. We worked with them on selecting the right colors and textures, and even ribbons, to create a luxurious yet inviting suite. Their overall branding was carried through to the day-of details. From the menus, to the place cards, the welcome packets. No stone was left unturned without proper care and thought. I just received an email from the bride who captured it better than I could “They are works of art that we plan to frame!”

What does your morning routine look like?

During the summer, since I rise earlier than the rest of the family, it is always a tranquil morning with my cafe con leche and toast. I read up on my morning news and stare outside at our view to the mountains or watch the birds catch their morning food. I often times will figure out a design noodle in my head during this time.
During school, year, it is a different story, haha! It’s off to the races getting my kiddo to school. Then I start my morning routine (see beginning :)).
What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?
I am loving how attentive couples are with their guests. They are choosing to create a brand that serves their guests well while embodying them as a couple. I love the willingness to incorporate different mediums, for instance leather or fabrics or try something out of the ordinary. Challenge accepted! 😉 Couples are wanting to be unique and find a way to stand out. Lastly, I love that my creative cohorts in the industry are collaborating more and more to create an otherwise impossible task alone! It is always amazing what a team of creatives can do!
What advice would you give to a younger you?
Oh man, there is so much I’d tell myself! Crystal ball, eh? In truth, though: Slow down. Life will happen. Seize every moment, as it is fleeting!
What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?
I love what I do! Each day is a different day, and a different creative solution to come up with!
What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?
Cocktail, Margarita or Piña Colada (I guess you cannot take the Puerto Rico out of me :)) Tonight, I am drinking my Chai Tea Latte. Every. night.

Check out some of the amazing work Lucky Onion has created for their couples!
