Earlier this summer, we had the honor of planning Katie and James’ wedding weekend in Aspen. Katie and James were an extra special couple because we planned her step brother’s wedding the year prior. Katie and James were the epitome of joy and were the sweetest couple to help make their colorful Colorado wedding come to life. Throughout the planning process, we made sure to weave in personal elements of K+J to truly make for a one of a kind wedding weekend.
We started off the weekend at Pine Creek Cookhouse, which has some of the most incredible views of the Elk Mountains – home to several Colorado 14ers – which are especially significant to Katie as she has summited so many of these majestic mountains. Guests were encouraged to embrace the western welcome theme and to bring out the cowboy hats and boots! A signature mocktail and crisp rosé were on the menu to kick off the perfect start to an incredible weekend.
For wedding day, we were greeted with the most perfect blue skies. Katie and James got ready with all of their closest friends and family for a slow, easy morning. The invitation envelope liners were a watercolor done by Katie’s sister of the iconic view that T Lazy 7 has to offer. It gave guests a sweet glimpse of what what to come!
Making sure to highlight nature and not compete with the surround beauty was top of the list in planning. A first look surrounded by lush landscapes and vibrant pops of color were the perfect compliment to colorful florals that we brought in.
The ceremony was dotted with playful blue delphiniums to add a bit of a whimsical approach to the florals. Katie’s sister and James’ brother’s stood by their side as the couple said their I do’s. Katie’s stepdad officiated the wedding, which brought an even more personal touch to the ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd!
Cocktail hour was where guests had a glimpse into what was to come with the menu for the evening. There was a jamón carving station, east coast oysters, Colorado beef carpaccio and more for guests to nosh on. Each item was carefully curated to highlight different parts of their relationship. From their trips to Spain, meeting on the east coast in New York, to the start of their forever in Colorado. Katie and James’ foodie side truly came out through the menu process!
Guest found their seats on an escort card display that was made from Aspen trees. The cards were the perfect shade of green to mimic the vibrant green leaves that you see on the trees as they start to come alive in spring.
The stunning Sperry Tent was the next place guests were invited to enjoy the next food experience and dance the night away. In the tent, we played with multiple patterned linens and dancing florals all around. The delicate ceramic place settings were the perfect compliment to vibrant florals that hung above the head table. The show stopping cake covered in sugar florals was a true work of art. We couldn’t forget about Katie and James’ sweet pup, Boomer, who made his appearance in multiple different places throughout the bar!
The Colorado weather continued to show off and gave us the most perfect golden hour to commemorate the newlyweds with pink painted skies.
Katie and James were showered with the most heartfelt and funny speeches by their loved ones. After cutting into the work of art cake, the dance floor stayed full all night long where their guests partied the night away in the Aspen evening.
Reliving this day will always be a favorite of ours! The biggest thanks to the vendor team that brought this weekend to life for Katie and James!
