Calluna Community | Cocktails with Chandlerie

Here at Calluna we are always looking for ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with. We feel incredibly fortunate to work with some seriously talented vendors in the industry, and we want to show them off to you in our new Calluna Community Series! We will sit down with some of the fabulous vendors of Colorado and get to know about them, their business and what life is like behind the scenes. Stay tuned for more!

This week we caught up with Elizabeth Carrier at Chandlerie!

Elizabeth Carrier left the floral industry for motherhood. After six months and a bout with postpartum, she thought it was time to get back into the industry she loved so much. While working with flowers, she always noticed the amount of candles that ended up in the trash after weddings and began considering solutions. After melting and remaking one candle, she founded Chandlerie. Since launching in May 2019, Chandlerie has rescued over 1200 pounds of waste wax from landfills.

Currently Chandlerie has developed a set line of trending colored candles always with the option for a custom hue. They recently launched in the California and Kentucky markets, and have plans to launch in select markets across the US. The best part? They strive to keep their candles entirely up-cycled.

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do!

We create artisan up-cycled candles catered towards the wedding and event industry by collecting retired candles from previous events. Our endeavor is in huge thanks to the amazing wholesalers and florists who immediately supported us and cheered us on. Without their enthusiasm for the project and immense care of artisan goods for their clients, we would never have made the splash we’ve made since launching in May of 2019.

What is your idea of a dream project?

What isn’t our idea of a dream project?! Working in the event industry allows us so much creativity to explore different design principles and styles from event to event. But if we had to pick one, a massive king table with dense ombre styled pillar and taper candles in the hundreds would make us giddy. Anyone have this client on forecast for the next season?!

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?

As our backgrounds are in flowers, it’s been a really amazing experience to provide a wholesale good to florists opposed to designing the flowers themselves. We don’t see the overall vision from our clients aside from the occasional screenshot of flower varieties or palette, so we can match dye lot to the best of our abilities. After the client (most often the florist) and photographer share images with us we are constantly in awe of what our talented clients create. Every wedding and event is so unique, and honestly we couldn’t pick just one as every one we’ve had the honor to be a part of has been a blessing in itself.

What does your morning routine look like?

My morning routine revolves around a toddler, so I’ll spare you the details – but there’s lots of coffee involved! As a business we are constantly in communication developing our goals and action list for the next round of orders and our agenda to continue the growth of the company. It’s really important to us that the business grows organically and we are able to maintain amazing relationships and quality control.

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?

Color color color! What we do is all about providing an additional design element to our clients’ events. We wanted to provide an accessible fully dyed color candle with hues unique to our industry. Our color line is driven by current trends and newly available flower varieties. Right now, people are loving mustards/antique golds, blushes, an assortment of greens are on the process line, and different shades of dusty blues.

What advice would you give to a younger you?

Surround yourself with people who enrich you. Be sure to support and love the people you want to keep in your life and let them know how much you appreciate them.

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?

The dream of what’s next! We are starting to grow and ship to new states and markets around the country and it is thrilling to see our national industry understand us and get it!

What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?

Water! It’s so dry here.

Calluna Community | Cocktails with Plum Sage Flowers

Here at Calluna we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with.

This week for Calluna Community we caught up with Erin at Plum Sage Flowers! Plum Sage is located in Denver and will travel throughout the state and beyond to accommodate floral needs; and they create stunning flower arrangements for weddings, holidays, special events, and beyond!

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do!

Plum Sage creates flower arrangements for weddings, holidays, special events, weekly or everyday occasions. We are a design studio in the West Wash Park neighborhood of Denver. We offer customized orders for events and occasions as well as flower subscriptions, design classes and parties in our space.

What is your idea of a dream project?

I personally am inspired by art, fashion, architecture and nature. An ideal project for me includes enhancing an already unique space, such as a unique backyard with an ornate garden. Creating beauty that looks as if it could grow out of the ground in an already flourishing environment would be delightful. Letting the environment shape the design would be fun.

What has been your favorite event that you have worked, or attended?

For my 40th birthday, I hired a second line to surprise my guests at The Kitchen downtown. We formed a parade and they played while we danced our way through downtown Denver. We then welcomed passerbys into a dance party in front of Union Station. It was an amazing way to enter a new decade!

What does your morning routine look like?

My lab Wesley wakes me up by 6 AM with a lick or a nose rub as he loves an early breakfast. I immediately make a latte and what happens next depends upon my kiddos. I am either packing a lunch or organizing backpacks, sneaking in a few emails, heading to a workout or just sitting at the kitchen table with one of them on my lap while they wake up. My kids like a soft start up where as I hit the ground running.

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?

Patterned, bold linens as well as the use of potted plants or simply the use of unique plant foliage in arrangements as a focal greenery.

What advice would you give to a younger you?

Be vulnerable, honest and kind. I did my best to be honest and kind but didn’t always have the courage to be vulnerable.

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?

I love coming to our charming studio and I love working with unique, beautiful product that changes by the week.

What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?

It changes by the season, but I love a good French Rose or Clase Azul tequila, soda and a splash of citrus.

Calluna Community | Cocktails with Elite Entertainment

Here at Calluna we are always looking for new ways to highlight and honor some of the amazing creative partners we get to work with.

This week for Calluna Community we caught up with Josi at Elite Entertainment!

Cheers! Xo, Calluna

Describe what you do!

I am the Administrator of Elite Entertainment, so I am the first person a client speaks to when they call or come in. I delegate tasks and clients to the rest of my team, keep our company culture positive, speak to potential clients, and generally help the office atmosphere stay positive and moving forward. As a company, we provide amazing DJ/MC services, Photo Booths, and lighting and decor to our clients for their special day or any event they want to make epic.

What is your idea of a dream project?

Someone who has a cool venue and wants it all! DJ to flow the evening and rock the party, photo booth to entertain the guests and capture the mood of the night, lighting that changes the entire atmosphere of a venue to create the exact vision of our clients, and make it a day they will always remember!

What has been your favorite wedding that you have worked, or attended?

We transformed the bridge at Coohills, used over a hundred Edison drops and several chandeliers to create a really awesome venue out of the bridge! We also did another event there, where we made the bridge into a tent with draped fabric and market lights. It was amazing!

What does your morning routine look like?

I get to the office, say hello to the colleagues who beat me in, make coffee for the office, and input new contacts into the system. Then start on everything else!

What are some of your favorite trends that you are seeing?

I love our geometric Edison drop cages that people utilize over a large table. It really adds an amazing touch to the decor. We also really like that copper is becoming popular, smaller arches that can be bedazzled in lighting or greens that goes over a sweetheart table.

What advice would you give to a younger you?

The entertainment industry is a crazy place, but it’s so much fun. Get into it now and learn even more skills!

What makes you excited to go to work in the morning?

I work with really great people. There is usually a really positive energy in our office, and we all want to make people’s dreams come true. All the way to behind the scenes production crew that sets up our lighting and decor. They work so hard and are all so nice and professional and do a wonderful job.

What is your favorite cocktail, or what are you drinking tonight?

I am a dirty martini type of girl if I’m going to drink a cocktail!

Colorado Wedding Bands: Part I

A great band that can captivate your guests and draw them out onto the dance floor is worth every penny. Your wedding is a celebration of love, and there is no better way to celebrate then getting down on the dance floor with your family, friends and loved ones. Here in Colorado, we are beyond lucky to have some tremendously talented bands in the industry, and we are so thrilled to highlight them and their fabulous musicians. From favorite songs to advice on picking your wedding band, these industry professionals are absolutely worth checking out! Stayed tuned for Part II of our Colorado Bands series.

Enjoy! Calluna

What is the Genre You Most Enjoy Playing?

Tunisia Band: “Tunisia is passionate about so many genre’s of music, but we have a mutual agreement that we never go outside the comfort zone. If we can’t play it without it sounding amazing, we just don’t do it. That said, there would be no genre but high energy and musically complete songs are our favorite.”

unspecified-1

Syndicate Band: “I would have to say as a whole 80’s & 90’s Rock and R&B/Hip Hop. However current Top 40 is also right up there.”

unnamed-6

Mannequin the Band: “I’m sure all of Mannequin’s players would have their own opinions on this, so I can only speak for myself but I would say Motown/oldies. Even songs that sound from that era, like Bruno Mars, Meghan Trainor, Michael Jackson. The best is mashing some oldies with the new stuff. It’s not only challenging as a musician, but it makes you realize how much influence oldies and disco have on todays hits!”

What is Your Favorite First Dance Song?

Tunisia Band: “First dances are like a first kiss, a first glance or the first time you realized that you have met the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with. Each one is, and should be,  special and unique to each couple. So for me or the band to say what is our favorite would be insincere. Our favorite is when we play the song and the couple has tears in their eyes and a smile from ear to ear. That is our favorite first dance.”

Syndicate Band: “We’ve been fortunate to perform at several weddings so picking just one is HARD!! I’d have to say my top 3 are “I Won’t Give Up”, “Sway”, and “Bless The Broken Road.”

Mannequin The Band: “We love Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”! It’s so epic with the horn line coming in at that perfect moment! The “movie moment” opportunities are endless with that song. We also love Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am”. It’s subtle and folky with clever lyrics and a good contrast to the big dance party thats about to take off.

What is your favorite part of the wedding?

Tunisia Band: “This one is easy. We have been so blessed to be matched with great clients but all of us feel the best part is when the night is over and we get to talk to the guest’s, the families and in particular the Bride and Groom and see and hear how  they are completely satisfied, overjoyed and know that their wedding was the best they have ever been a part of or a guest of. We are not talking about receiving gratitude for the band, we are talking about Tunisia being able to be a part of something that everyone in attendance will remember for the rest of their lives. It does make what we do complete and is the goal on every wedding we play.”

unspecified-2

Syndicate Band: “My favorite times of the evening are the first 30 minutes after all the formalities (1st dance, Father & Daughter/Mother & Son dances). The guests seem to relax a bit and let loose. The last 45 minutes of the night seem to always be really fun.”

unnamed-5

Mannequin The Band: “The reason we love playing weddings is because everyone is there to party! Everyone is in that room to celebrate the bride and groom. So that first note where all the guests are invited to the dance floor is my favorite moment. It makes me so happy for the bride and groom (and their families) as we’ve been working them for months…sometimes over a year…to makes sure the evening everything they want it to be and more.”

What is your advice on choosing a Wedding band?

Tunisia Band: “ The band will make or break your wedding. No one will remember the meal, the drinks, the cake but they will all remember the band. Choose a band that is complete, the same players every time they play so the chemistry is there. The ability of a band to connect and make your evening is in large part one of chemistry. The other is, are they the right fit for you and your guests. Can they adapt to a range demographics or are they limited? Do they understand what you like, and do you understand what they can and can not do?  If you cover those issues, and I would personally do it with a band member not a representative, you want to know if you’re being sold on blue sky or if you have someone that will actually be playing the music and can honestly answer your questions…”

“Lastly and maybe one of the most important and most overlooked is the Planner. Great planners get the best show’s out of their bands. They have the best weddings from start to finish and for good reason. They know how to make your evening successful and memorable…”

Syndicate Band: “Choose the right band for your guest…if they have fun, you’ll have fun. It’s your night but don’t try to make a Top 40 variety band a country or rock group. Trust your judgement and let the band show off the reason you hired them.”

Mannequin The Band: “When choosing a band for your wedding, be sure to pay attention to the band’s chemistry and the way they handle all the little details (even in the booking and contract process). This is a good picture of what to expect on your wedding day. This shows how they communicate with other vendors, whether guests feel drawn to go to the dance floor, the whole band being a step ahead on whats needed for the evenings activities. The other thing to look for is a band who can distinguish the fine line between commanding the stage as an entertainer, yet directing the attention to most important people in the room: the happy couple and their loved ones. ”
