It’s time once again for another round of Friday introductions to Calluna Events and our team of Colorado wedding planners! Today we start with our Owner and fearless leader, Heather Dwight. Heather started Calluna Events in 2004 and most recently launched a brand new business, Love Well Planned: invigorating and immersive workshops for wedding planners and wedding creatives who are interested in elevating their business education.

Heather started Calluna Events in 2004 after working in non-profit and corporate events for 10 years. With a vibrant and captivating sense of style, Heather is one of the most sought-after wedding planners in Colorado and with weddings planned for New York, Louisana, Wyoming, New Mexico and Virginia she is helping Calluna expand to exciting destinations. She is the visionary behind Calluna Events being recognized as one of the Best Wedding Planners in America by BRIDES, The Knot’s Best of Weddings (2008-2019), The Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame and the winner of Wedding Wire Bride’s Choice Award. Heather served as the Director of Communications on the inaugural WIPA Colorado Board of Directors. Clients describe Heather as having a sophisticated, yet calming confidence, allowing her to be a true advocate for her clients’ vision. Heather also provides business coaching and mentoring and in 2019 launched a new business, Love Well Planned which focuses on workshops for wedding planners and wedding creatives. She loves mindful design, style and immaculate detail. After 16 seasons, what Heather adores the most are the relationships she is fortunate to build with clients and helping couples achieve a beautiful wedding that is authentically theirs.

  • What do you do to relax after a wedding is over?

I love to decompress by having a glass of wine and looking through our iPhone photos and stories of the day as well as through images posted online if the couple has a hashtag. It’s always fun to take a minute to relive the day and revel in the hard work accomplished! The next day I’m always up bright and early to spend time with my family!

  • What do you like to do when you’re not planning weddings?

When I’m not at a wedding or traveling for one I like to spend time as possible with my husband and our two children, Maggie and Grey. I love spending time with friends and being outside whenever I can. I love to travel; last year I went to Mexico (three times!), Scotland, England, Ireland and Costa Rica!.  In the spring and summer I love spending time in my garden.  I like to stay active by hiking, biking, running or doing yoga.

  • Did you plan your own wedding?

Yes, I planned it but then had several wedding planners in attendance. Gabbie Sarbaugh on the Calluna team was my Day of Coordinator but Spice Jones, also on the Calluna team was in attendance with her husband. They made sure no detail was overlooked and that umbrellas were handed out the several times it rained during our outdoor wedding!

  • What is something you have seen at a wedding that you absolutely loved?

At our own wedding we hand wrote notes to each guest as part of their escort cards. It was important for us to make sure each guest knew how important they were to us and that we were grateful to them for coming to our wedding. I also love any incorporation of the couple’s heritage, culture or background – anything that makes the wedding personal to them. For us, since I’m half Scottish,  we had touches of my Scottish heritage throughout.

  • What is your favorite part of the planning process?

I honestly love when it all comes together on the day of the wedding – the couple seeing each other for the first time, the couple seeing the reception for the first time. those moments on the day of the wedding are so special and I’m honored to have a part in helping create those for our couples.

  • What is your favorite reception song?

We walked down the aisle to “The Weather” by Built to Spill and we did our first dance to “Hold you in My Arms” by Ray LaMontangue

  • Favorite flower?

Ranunculus, Anemone, Poppy and Peony

  • Favorite dress designer?

I’ve always liked the modern lines and color of Tara LaTour dresses and of course Vera Wang. I recently had the honor of going with one of my brides to see her try on dresses at Carolina Herrera and I absolutely love the sophistication and style of CH gowns.

  • What is some advice you would give couples planning their own wedding?

Talk to each other before you start planning about the wedding you envision, your budget and what is important to both of you. Try to stick to that throughout the planning. Hire a wedding planner.
