With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we asked some local retailers what they are doing for the special event. Consider stopping by these great places for a last minute gift or something to do for some mama love!

1. Willow :: If you haven’t been into Willow, you need to go! Spoil your mom with a shopping trip or send some items her way. Two favorites: Smyth Schoolboy Blazer + Clare Viver foldover clutch

3. Lale Floral :: For such a special occasion we wanted to feature a fresh, unique floral designer. We sat down with Stephanie (owner + designer) of Lale Floral to tell us a little about her shop and the upcoming season. If you haven’t already put in a flower order,  check them out!

Calluna Events: What types of gifts + arrangements do you suggest for Mother’s Day?

Lale Floral: While it is traditional to give flowers for mother’s day we definitely stay away from traditional designs. Those who care for us everyday deserve something that is unique; in order to accomplish this we turn to Mother Nature herself and the abundantly beautiful spring blooms she has to offer. Maybe your Mother has had that empty family heirloom vase sitting on the fireplace mantle for years; bring it into our studio, we love the challenge of filling it for you and it makes for a perfectly fitting gift. Another really sweet gesture, if you don’t want to spend a lot, simply order something small maybe for her bedside table, bathroom sink or dresser; mother’s love little reminders. For the practical Mom, go with a small plants design, succulent gardens or terrariums. These are a hit right now and are still very colorful and sweet.

CE: What seasonal flowers (traditional or trendy) are your favorites?
LF: This Mother’s Day season we are going organic. The tight and round designs are no longer; with all the wonderful delicate blooms available in the spring we want to embrace their true structure and let the foliage move the design. Our little trick this year is collecting foliage straight from the plant. Spring offers so many different greens but are often limited at wholesale florists so we figure, why not clip some stems away from the source itself?  This allows us to create lovely and truly seasonal garden designs. Also, this is the only time of year for blooming branches, these guys create such fun drama and texture to a design and often last longer than the blooms so she keep them around for a more DIY blooming branch look. Lastly, it is all about fragrance. Spring flowers are some of the most fragrant of the year. Fragrant flowers we will definitely be designing with are garden roses, sweet peas, daffodils and lilies. Lilacs are one of my favorite spring blooms; they are architectural, fragrant and textural.
CE: Do you have any specials you’d like us to promote?

LF: Sure, mention this blog and receive 10% your mother’s day flower order!

Have a great Mother’s Day!
