Christin + Bob | Romantic Farm Wedding

Christin + Bob’s June 1st wedding was truly a special day!

The wedding took place at Milston Well Farm in Longmont, CO where guests received the unique experience of dining in the outdoors under a glowing sailcloth tent. The pleasant weather, the locally sourced farm-to-table cuisine, and the opportunity to interact with the resident farm animals provided guests a truly unique Colorado experience.

Guests were serenaded throughout the night by folk/bluegrass singer, Erinn Martin of Thunder and Rain and Christin + Bob’s one year old daughter (and flower girl), Hazel was cuddled and adored by all!

When we initially asked Christin what her top priorities for her wedding were she answered with “low stress, warm weather, laid back vibe, delicious meal, and an intimate setting”. We are so thankful that we received the opportunity to assist this sweet family on their special day!

Field to Vase Boulder with American Grown Flowers

Sometimes we are fortunate to be brought onboard where a stellar team is already assembled and we get to work magic with our fellow vendors. This was the case when Kasey Cronquist from American Grown Field to Vase reached out one month prior to their Boulder event. The Field to Vase Tour is a series of private, intimate, must-attend gatherings that place seasonal, local and sustainable American Grown flowers at the center of the table where locally grown food, beer, and wine is served by a farm-to-table chef. We were fortunate to help participate this year in the 2nd annual Boulder event with some of our favorite local vendors such as Robyn Rissman of Bare Root Flora and Alicia Schwede of Flirty Fleurs, (long time friend and former Colorado florist), Kristy and Chet Anderson of the Fresh Herb Company, our venue and Blackbelly Catering, our local farm-to-table powerhouse! Together we created a beautiful evening for our guests, showcased what Colorado flower farmers and florists are exceptional at and had incredible weather! We already can’t wait for next year’s event!

Gorgeous photography from the insanely talented and lovely Connie Whitlock Photography!

Boulder Burgundy Festival kicks off this week!

The Boulder Burgundy Festival brings wine aficionados from near and far together to sample, taste, judge and enjoy the wines of the Burgundy region. Calluna Events is thrilled to once again be involved with this years festival – our 4th year in a row. Take a look at our post about last years festival.

The creator and host of the Burgundy Festival is Master Sommelier and Boulder Wine Merchant owner Brett Zimmerman.  “The four-day celebration of Burgundy wines includes tastings and seminars with winemakers and top U.S. wine directors, as well as wine dinners hosted by Boulder’s best restaurants.”

The Fifth Annual Boulder Burgundy Festival, is to be held this coming week, October 22-25, 2015. The celebration of Burgundy wines includes tastings and seminars with winemakers and top U.S. wine directors, as well as wine luncheons and dinners hosted by Boulder’s best restaurants such as Frasca and The Flagstaff House. The gathering is one of the leading Burgundy events in the U.S. today and it attracts top Burgundy producers and leading wine professionals from across the country.

“As a retailer of fine wines,” says Master Sommelier and Boulder Wine Merchant owner Brett Zimmerman (above, left, standing), “it is impossible not to love the spectacular wines of Burgundy. The greatest tragedy of loving these wines is not tasting the great ones often enough. Selfishly, we thought hosting a Burgundy Festival would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate the wines of the region by tasting and sharing them with some of our friends, customers, restaurateurs, suppliers, and producers.

Past speakers have included: Richard Betts, MS, owner of My Essential Wines and Saint Glinglin Wines; Shayn Bjornholm MS, Examination Director for the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas; Robert Bohr, Grand Cru Selections and owner of Charlie Bird Restaurant in New York City; Carlton McCoy, MS, Wine Director at the Little Nell in Aspen; Raj Parr, Executive Wine Buyer for the Michael Mina Restaurants and owner of Sandhi and Maison L’Orée; Eric Railsback, Caveau in Santa Barbara as well as Lieu Dit and Vallin Wines; Grant Reynolds, Sommelier at Charlie Bird in New York, formerly of Frasca Food and Wine and named a 2013 Wine & Spirits Best New Sommelier; Sabato Sagaria, MS, Director of Food and Beverage at the Little Nell in Aspen; and Bobby Stuckey, MS, owner of Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, CO and Scarpetta Wines.

Organization & Relocation :: 10 Year Anniversary

We had the joy of helping Sheryl from Organization & Relocation plan her 10 year anniversary party. When she asked us to assist we jumped at the opportunity! Sheryl is a close friend of Calluna’s, in fact she assisted our owner Heather with her move last year and did a fantastic job!

We love celebrating such a big milestone for a local business. Having a business open for 10 years and have it be successful is a big deal to say the least. Which is why we wanted to create the perfect celebration! The party was packed all night with friends and clients coming by to offer their congratulations and toast their success! It was hosted right in Boulder at the local favorite, t/aco. Which means the margaritas, chips, guac, and tacos were free flowing all night! What’s not to love about that?!

Fiori Flowers provided the simple arrangements of Pincushion Protea which tied perfectly into the simple and clean look that Organization & Relocation strive for. And it wouldn’t have been a party if there wasn’t any cake! Jen from Lucky’s Bakehouse provided the cake which was in the shape of Organization & Relocation logo and of course some of those irresistible brownie bites! Yum!

The party was an absolute success and we are so proud of Sheryl and her business! She is truly so good at what she does and we were so happy to be there to help her celebrate the big 10 year!  Here’s to more years to come! Cheers, Calluna xx

Roger’s 60th Backyard Birthday

Roger came to Calluna Events three weeks before his 60th Birthday. He needed help planning a party for friends and family at his home in Boulder. Sadly, Roger had lost his wife the previous year. He wanted the party to be an truly special and memorable evening for all his guests.
With the natural beauty of Boulder providing the backdrop, we planned a gorgeous backyard party for him.  A pianist welcomed guests arrived and walked through the entry way. Upon entering the backyard, guests were serenaded by the talented Sergio playing acoustic guitar. With the scenery and music creating the perfect ambiance, guests enjoyed the delicious food catered by GB Culinary Concepts. Great food, music, and friends created the perfect evening Roger came to Calluna looking for. It was a true celebration of life!

Party Planning 101 :: Calluna’s Guide to Hosting

With the holiday season upon us, we’re welcoming in just as many parties as we are inches of snow. For those of you who are hosting be it a holiday work party, hot chocolate bar or full out NYE bash, we’ve put together a Party Planning 101 to help you make the most out of your fancy fete.

DO:

Send out invitations far in advance. We’re nearing the 2014 countdown and if you haven’t gotten your invites out consider doing this sooner than later. Being a respectful host means being courteous of people’s busy lives outside of your gathering, regardless of how formal or informal your party may be.

 Screen Shot 2014-12-03 at 8.29.43 AM OscarsRG-2029 OscarsRG-2037

Politely inform guests if this is a ‘parents night out’ or if the whole family is welcome. Consider including “please let us know if you need assistance finding a sitter, as the evening will be for the adults only” directly on the invite.**The invitation is great place to state the dress code as well. Ugly sweater, anyone!?

Take advantage of fun venues around town. Who says every party needs to be in your living room? Not us! Try something new and rent out a fun restaurant or event space. Frasca, The Kitchen Upstairs or BMoCA (pictured below) are a few of our favorites.

OscarsRG-2006

Screen Shot 2014-12-03 at 8.39.47 AM

Try something new and unexpected.  It’s likely that lots of other hosts will incorporate festive holiday decor, buy why do that when you could give your guests an exciting, memorable experience? Bring in a mixologist, local band, cigar roller or a wine tasting class!

web-131212-Krughoff-5766

Consider hiring an event planner. We know you have a laundry list of things to do (including laundry) and this party is just one more item to stress over. We love navigating the planning process and can offer fun and creative options for outside-of-the-box party ideas, fun decor elements and assist with guest management, valet services and other ideas you might not think about. We’d love to start the conversation.

DON’T

Leave your guests in a sticky situation. Holidays are a critical time to be extra cautious on the road. Provide nonalcoholic drinks for your guests, a designated driver, or even offer to cover the Uber ride home. Thinking about these details (sometimes even before your guest!) will show you are both prepared and compassionate to everyone’s needs.

Screen Shot 2014-12-03 at 8.27.12 AM

Get overwhelmed! The point of coming together is to celebrate and be in one another’s company. Don’t wait until the last hour to start enjoying yourself. Cheers!

Oscar Party at Frasca Food + Wine

When the oh-so-fabulous Liz Finkelstein of Mile High Style called and said she was throwing a fancy Oscar party at Frasca Food + Wine we wanted nothing more than to be by her side the entire way with the planning of this stylish soiree. A fabulous stylist + a fabulous venue for a fabulous award show? Sounds like the best party on the block! Our only hope is that Liz will throw it again this year. Gorgeous photography credit goes to the lovely Rachel Gomez .

2012 Highlights from Calluna Events

In what has become one of our favorite traditions, it’s time to highlight and recap the year, and show you favorite images from our 2012 weddings. Not only does this tradition allow us to look through our weddings and reminisce about all the fun we had, it allows us to be truly humbled and gracious for the opportunities we have all year long.

And it is with that spirit we want to say an enormous thank you; to the brides and grooms we have the honor of working with and all of the incredible wedding vendors in Colorado we had the opportunity to work with throughout the year! Our clients and vendors make what we do truly a joy.

We’ve had our most successful year to date! This year we met and worked with incredible clients who became friends, who we want to stay in touch with and hear their wonderful news. We are grateful to be surrounded by lovely couples who allow us to help them with their wedding plans. We some exciting things in the works for 2013 and we can’t wait to share them with you!
