Friday Introduction: Meet Spice

This week as a part of our Friday Introduction series, we are hearing from Spice! Spice Jones, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, joined the Calluna Events team in 2006 for the opportunity to combine a background in film producing with her love for creating beautiful celebrations. Spending 14 years collaborating with the country’s top art directors and wardrobe designers gave Spice the “everything is possible!” excitement that Calluna Events brings to each and every event. What do you do to relax after a wedding is over?

If I’m lucky enough to bring home a piece of wedding cake, I’ll put on my pjs while my husband pours a glass of whatever-happens-to-be-in-the-fridge and then we curl up on the couch to savor the confection and catchup on the day.

What is something you have seen at a wedding that you absolutely loved?

A few years ago I watched a groom’s father give his son the same toast his father gave him on his own wedding day. And when he finish the toast the groom’s mother gifted the newlyweds the toasting glasses they received for their wedding 30 years prior. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Favorite flower?

I absolutely love Gardenias. They remind me of old Hollywood and their fragrance take me back to my Southern home. Nothing is more charming than a groom with fragrant Gardenia on his lapel.

Favorite dress designer?

There are so many amazing new designers these days but, Vera Wang remains my all-time favorite. I still get chills when I have a bride walking down the aisle in one of her dresses.

Favorite wedding movie?

High Society? My Best Friend’s Wedding? Wedding Crashers? Mamma Mia? It’s impossible to narrow the list to a single favorite. But, considering I’ve watched The Proposal more times than all the rest combined I guess it should be the winner…for now.

What is some advice you would give couples planning their own wedding?

I think the most beneficial thing a couple can do before starting the planning process is to engage a Wedding Planner for a few hours of logistical advice. Discuss your guest count, share your vision, and be candid about your budget so the Planner can help you avoid any of the financial or emotional surprises hidden behind the excitement of planning the big day. I promise those few hours will be invaluable.

Friday Introduction: Meet Gabbie

During her growth with Calluna Events, Gabbie has mastered the use of her innate sense of organization and attention to detail to be able to realize the potential of every wedding and event. Gabbie loves the challenge and complexity of adapting the planning process to each event, and bringing all the detailed pieces together. And she loves getting to know each of her clients and being a part of their special day.

A little more about Gabbie…

What do you do to relax after a wedding is over?

I always take a shower to relax my body from the post wedding rush/excitement! Once I bed, I usually scroll through Instagram to check in on other events from the day. Sunday’s are reserved for a decadent breakfast and a lot of downtime!

What is something you have seen at a wedding that you absolutely loved?

I love a statement flower piece and when my couples are ahead of the trend! Molly + Kyle’s ceremony wreath backdrop was absolutely stunning and one of the first I had seen!

Favorite flower?

Peony! Not only do they remind me of my great-grandmother, grandmother and mom but they make such a statement in a flower arrangement or solo!

Favorite dress designer?

It’s impossible to choose just one, but I’m definitely partial to Liancarlo who designed my wedding gown.

Favorite wedding movie?

While not traditionally thought of as a wedding movie, The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies of all time and the wedding scene is so magical and iconic!

What is some advice you would give couples planning their own wedding?

Choose the few things that are really important to you (photos, music, decor, stationary)! By focusing on these aspects while being flexible about the other details, it will really make the day about you!

Yoga, Love and Community with YogaGlo at the Hanuman Festival

“Regardless of religion, culture, age or political views, something we all have in common is the human condition. Yoga is the lifelong process of investing in the quality of our condition. YogaGlo’s intention is to empower people around the world to engage in this process.” from YogaGlo
There are so many reason why people can gather together with intentions of love, community, and celebration – and we want to witness them all. We were lucky enough to be a part of a larger team that is hosting an incredible community space to gather, converse, learn and practice at Boulder’s annual Hanuman Festival, a four day yoga festival that brings in people from all over the world.
For the third year in a row, we were proud to assist in creating the YogaGlo Lounge. We joined forces with our friends at Eclectic Hive to create the beautiful lounge– filled with modern accents and comfy furniture tented under the beautiful Boulder High lawn. YogaGlo is and has been main sponsor of the Hanuman Festival, and we couldn’t be more proud to support their sponsorship in assisting with the lounge. YogaGlo offers over 3,500 professionally-filmed online yoga classes taught by experienced, certified yoga teachers to customers around the world. They believe that yoga should be accessible to everyone and our classes are designed to give you an in-studio experience, at an affordable price, in your own home.

The YogaGlo Lounge is part of the larger community experience at the Hanuman Festival . “Hanuman Festival is a community-oriented yoga and music festival set at the foot of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. Attendees have an opportunity to join in Boulder, Colorado for a celebration with world-class yoga instructors, mind-blowing music, inspirational experiences and a nourishing community. Immerse yourself in body, mind and heart as you relax and rejuvenate, dance and devote, connect and expand, have fun and just be.”

This year we had the pleasure of spending a little more time at the festival and even had the opportunity to participate in this soul fulfilling festival. We had the joy to be instructed from some of the great local yoga teachers that are known very well throughout the yoga community, but we also were able to meet some new instructors that traveled near and far to come and share their knowledge with us! And we even experienced an amazing class that included live music from Magic Giant that was completely infectious!

There is something magically sweet about an Airstream Trailer. Maybe its the sleek design, or maybe its the fact that they make for some Pinterest-worthy photos – either way, we need one! Take a trip to Santa Barbara and rent out an airstrip from Autocamp! From the Autocamp Website: “Designed and built in Santa Barbara by Architect Matthew Hofmann, each Airstream is as unique as the history of its past. Boasting a combined 250 years of age – and surely thousands of miles on the road – our Airstreams are living out a third or fourth life as an Autocamp suite. Each Airstream comfortably sleeps four people and has been renovated locally with sustainable construction methods and materials.”

We’re big lovers of traveling, so any excuse to wrangle up the gals and we are in! What better way to celebrate with your friends than a big road trip on the coast.  Take the Highway One road trip to explore the coast of California. Our suggestion? Rent one of these super fun Vintage Surfari Wagons to really complete the trip! Make sure you map out your stops ahead of time. There is so much to see!

For ideas and places to pit stop on the road trip, check out here and here.

On a budget? No problem! For a more wallet-friendly option, throw a backyard shindig and make it a movie night! Set up some themed snacks (salted caramel popcorn, anyone?), add some comfy blankets and pillows, and pop in some rom-coms! Step it up notch and host a small dinner before the movie. A simple white sheet can act as the screen while you play movies on an affordable projector from Amazon.

Happy planning!

Meet the newest Calluna Planner!

It is with great excitement that we introduce you to the newest member of the Calluna Events team. We met and worked with Kaylee in her last event planning position at a Denver venue.  Kaylee has a passion for the event industry, is a talented photographer, has a creative and stylish eye, as well as a background in marketing & design, all assets that make for a great event planner!  We are thrilled to add Kaylee to our expanding team and look forward to incredible things to come! Keep reading to learn more!

Kaylee Maresh came to Calluna Events with an extensive background in the Event, Marketing and Design industry. A native of South Dakota, her love for the wedding industry first blossomed when she interned for Jenna Walker and Katie Thurmes of Jenna Walker Photographers. In an effort to satisfy her love for events, she later took on a position with a Denver-based Event Production company and assisted with events such as the Park City Food & Wine Classic, Steamboat Wine Festival, and the Taste of Fort Collins.  After graduating from South Dakota State University, she moved to Denver and continued in the festival world and then transitioned in the venue world.

What wedding trends are you loving?

I’m a huge fan of incorporating elements into the day that help narrate the Bride and Groom’s story. It’s all in the details!  Did you first flirt over burgers and fries at the neighborhood pub? Add some gourmet sliders and frites to your cocktail hour menu.  It’s a subtle way to share a sweet love tale.

I also love how more brides are opting for the long, family style tables.  They provide an intimate, cozy atmosphere that allows guests to get together as if they were having dinner with their closets friends.

What do you do in your spare time?

I’m a creative person by nature so I look for things that entertain that side of me. I’m a blogger, a photographer, and a foodie.  I am a cofounder and contributor of The Collaboration Blog – a lifestyle blog that details the musings of four friends with a love for adventure, celebrations, and style.

What’s next on your bucket list?

This may sound a little crazy, but I plan on swimming with sharks.  They terrify me! My girlfriends and I plan a bucket list trip for each other’s birthday each year. Two years ago we bungee jumped in LA. Last year we stayed in a treehouse in Seattle (Treehouse Masters, anyone?).  This year, it’s my turn –  so shark diving here we come.  I’m all about testing my personal limits.

What advice do you have for someone interested in getting into the event industry?

I encourage those interested in the  industry to take on an internship.  It’s a lot of hard work, and an internship is a good way to test your abilities and drive for the industry.  Also, be kind to everyone you meet.  The event industry is a very small world, and you can really make strides by the relationships you develop. I met Heather when I was working at a venue in Denver and I couldn’t be more grateful for the relationship.

Keep up with Kaylee on her Instagram!
